    • Legacy:

      Swami Brahmananda Saraswati is revered as a great spiritual luminary. His teachings and influence continue to inspire spiritual seekers and practitioners worldwide and was the inspiration for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to bring this knowledge to the West. He arrived in LA 1958 and the rest is, as we like to say, History!

      Ultimately, this knowledge culminated into Vedic Meditation, as imparted to us through our Guru ji, Thom Knoles. We recognize him as Maharishi Vyasanand Saraswati, which literally means the enlightened Vyasa of this age.

      Our Direct Connection to the Lineage:

      Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Thom’s Guru Ji, was a devoted disciple of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati for 13 years.

      After Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, our Guru Dev, dropped his body, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi when into silence for two years before emerging as the prolific teacher of “the Grace of Guru Dev” we remember him today.

      Listen to Thom’s Retelling of this story

      Through this lineage, the profound knowledge reaches us today, embodied by our Guru Ji, Thom Knoles, Maharishi Vyasanand Saraswati, as Vedic Meditation.

      The teachings and spiritual lineage of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati have left an indelible mark on the landscape of Vedic philosophy.This legacy continues to thrive through the living knowledge of Vedic Meditation and our growing community of meditators.

Diwali and How to Celebrate

Diwali
victory of light over darkness
November 9th - 14th, 2023

Photo by Samadhi Collective

Diwali symbolizes
triumph of light (knowledge)
over
darkness (ignorance)

It's a celebration of light & love.

The specific customs and traditions can vary among regions and communities, but the core message of Diwali remains universal.

In times of difficulty or conflict,
it is important to know that wars are meant to be fought inside - in the subtler realms.

Rather than contributing fear or anger, take some time to address these themes inside yourself by transforming them into positive action.

It can be done simply by keeping up your daily practice, which it itself, contributes a stabilizing force. You can also see some suggestions below: )

Themes we can celebrate during this auspicious time:
Victory of Light over Darkness
Renewal of life and new beginnings
Spiritual Renewal / Meditation

Ways to Honor and Celebrate:
1.
Lighting of Lamps
signifies the removal of spiritual darkness
2.
Acts of kindness
3.
Cleaning your space
to clear negativity & welcome in all that is life-affirming
with flowers and colorful decorations

4.
Enjoy Shared Experience with friends and family

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

In the past few years,

I had begun to feel that my birth name

did not fully express how I have grown & continue to develop

with my Vedic Meditation

practice

&

education.

I shared this with Thom,

he blessed me with the beautiful name
Jānakī,
another name for Sita,
meaning
daughter of Janaka
the enlightened King of Mithilia
from the Ramāyana.
Sita is also seen as an incarnation of
Śri Lakshmi

श्री

Su
Jānakī

In Exploring the Veda 1, we learn

Nāma Rūpa
sahitam eva bhavati

translated by Thom as:
Name and Form
are infinitely correlated indeed

Nāma = Name

Rūpa = Form

sahitam = together

eva = indeed

bhavati = they become

He also shared the story of the evolution of his name to Maharishi Vyasananda Saraswati, saying that names can evolve along with the individual. Today, I reflect on the energetic resonance of my new spiritual name and the arc of the story of evolution.

May we all find greater happiness & understanding with each step toward Unity Consciousness.

Love & Jai Guru Deva
